South Africa’s urban population is growing larger and younger‚ and by 2050 nearly 80% of SA’s total population will be living in an urban area. Aerial imagery captured by Geosense is essential data used by both government and land and property professionals.
Local government valuations departments, city planners and property valuation professionals are realising the benefits of data derived from aerial imagery surveys. Our products are used for a wide range of strategic planning purposes in South Africa, including: land use and cover classification, updating topographical maps, rural development, property valuation, change detection and land reform programs.
The larger Metropolitan councils opt for higher resolution imagery - typically 10cm or better. The City of Cape Town, for example, acquires between 6.25cm and 8cm GSD imagery covering an area of 2600km where population growth is exerting pressure on the urban edge and change is occurring rapidly. Imagery and derived products such as dense point cloud Surface Models are used for change detection, building modeling and the determination of city-wide tree canopy estimations (using colour infrared imagery)
National datasets are typically captured between 15cm and 50cm GSD and include seamless orthomosaic and topographical data such as DSMs and DTMs, contours and vector line mapping

Our sensors capture very high resolution imagery - from 3cm Ground Sample Distance (GSD) GSD to 50cm GSD - of very large areas in both natural true colour (RGB) and Near infrared (NIR)
